BONUS - SEPTEMBER IS NATIONAL GET A LIBRARY CARD AND READ A NEW BOOK MONTH

I can’t remember the last time I read as much as I have so far in 2024.

After grad school, I needed a break from reading.

During/after corporate trauma, I just couldn’t concentrate enough to read.

Starting my own business, I felt pressured to read all of the personal development and business books.

All of these events resulted in the same thing - I lost my joy of reading.

I used to skip. Literally, SKIP out of the library when I got new books. I’m talking well into my 20’s. I LOVED reading and it brought me so much joy.

Finding my joy of reading again has been one of my benchmarks of my corporate trauma recovery.

I LOVE READING again.

So much so, that I’m in a small neighborhood bookclub.

As of this post, I have read 43, and listened to 14 books this year.

I’ve listened or read that many books in the last 10 years. Combined.

Here are a few reasons why you might to participate in Library Card Sign-Up Month and Read a New Book Month:

1. Access to knowledge and resources: Libraries provide access to a vast collection of books, ebooks, audiobooks, magazines, databases, and other resources that can help you learn new things and explore topics you're interested in.

2. Cost savings: By borrowing books and materials from the library instead of purchasing them, you can save a significant amount of money, especially if you're an avid reader.

3. Encourage reading habits: These initiatives aim to promote reading and literacy, especially among children and families. Reading has numerous benefits, including improving vocabulary, critical thinking skills, and imagination.

4. Discover new authors and genres: Libraries offer a diverse range of materials, allowing you to explore new authors, genres, and subjects that you may not have considered before, broadening your horizons and potentially discovering new interests.

5. Community involvement: Libraries often host various events, book clubs, and activities during these months, providing opportunities for community engagement, socializing, and intellectual stimulation.

6. Environmental impact: By borrowing books instead of purchasing new ones, you can reduce the demand for new materials, thereby contributing to a more sustainable environment.

Ultimately, these initiatives aim to encourage reading, promote literacy, and raise awareness about the valuable resources and services that libraries offer to their communities.
